Fishermen’s villages: Volendam & Marken - bus excursion
In Summer and Spring this may be a bit too much: bus loads of tourist visit these tradional village. On a nice autumn day you will be able to taste the atmosphere of these villages much better.
Volendam is a charming fishermen’s village, situated along the IJsselmeer, the former Zuiderzee. The Zuiderzee (South Sea) became a lake when it was closed of by a 32 kilometer long dike in the 1930's.
When you sit out on the terrace, and you will notice that several inhabitants are dressed in traditional costume.
You can take a boat to Marken, a former island to get a feeling how was in the nineteenth century.
